According to the FISMA (Federal Information Security Modernization Act Audit) report prepared by the U.S. government’s Office of Personnel Management, more than 30,000 incidents occurred in 2016 alone, spread across all government agencies.
Then, in February 2014, NIST’s Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) has published a document entitled Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity. In May 2018, the Framework was updated to its 1.1 version. The purpose of this document is also, according to NIST, to offer guidance to help organizations better understand and improve their cybersecurity risk management.
